Czech-Korean Days in Ostrava, co-host, November 20 – 21, 2009, Ostrava Civic Centre.

The festival was co-hosted by the Czech-Korean Society and Ostrava Civic Center. The aim was to present Korean culture to the Ostravian public and to enhance relationship between Czechs and Koreans living in Moravian-Silesian Region. (A rather large Korean community lives in the region due to the recently built Hyundai car manufacturing plant). The event was warmly welcomed by Ostravian public and organizers assume that over 1200 visitors took part in the various activities.

Core part of the festival was a concert of classical music, where pieces by Korean composer Jun Hee Lim; W.A. Mozart and A. Dvořák were played by Janacek Philharmony Ostrava together with an outstanding Korean pianist, Jung Jae Moon. The orchestra was conducted by a Korean conductor Young Chil Lee.

An exhibition of Korean folk paintings and prints called minhwa,  borrowed from the Gahoe Museum of Minhwa in Seoul, together with Korean traditional dress hanbok were exhibited in the lobby. During  the first day of the festival, Korean Art workshops (especially handcraft) and Taekwondo workshop took place, and proved to be very popular among Ostravian youths.  These were coupled with a culinary section with a Kimchi workshop and a traditional Korean tearoom.

See more pictures from the event on Ostrava Civic Centre web.
